Retarded me
I'm super duper pissed now!!One of the employment agencies sent me an email and told me that they couldn't further my application because my work permit would be expired soon in April 2006. I panicked because I'm dying to work. And I really can't afford to be screwed up by mishandling my work permit stuff. You must wanna ask me why I don't ask for a visa extension earlier to play safe, eh??
Here comes the part that triggers all my anger. The day when I collected this precious identity card from the City Hall in Dordrecht, I asked specially for the date that I should ask for an extension. If my memory serves me right, the conversation went like this -
(Me: Me, of course; GO: Government official)
Me: Just to be sure, when should I come back for an extension??
GO: That (pointed at the expiration date on my card and looked at me like I was an idiot).
Me: Ummm...so I should ask for an extension on April XX??
GO: Yea.
Me: Can I ask for one earlier??
GO: No, on April XX. Snap je dat (Eng: Do you understand)??
Me: Ja, kom ik terug bij April XX dan. Bedank en dag!! (Eng: Yea, I'll come back on April XX then. Thanks and bye!!)
But today when I surfed on the IND site and checked for information about visa extension (in order to get back to the employment agency). It is stated that a visa extension should be applied THREE MONTHS BEFORE the expiration date. What the...???!?!?!?!?!!?! I don't know if I should be pissed at the official for giving me the wrong information, or myself for counting on her words when Duth government officials are infamous for not caring/knowing much about their work.
Why am I so freaking stupid?? Why didn't I double check the information?? I didn't play safe, and I now am a sorry sight. Lesson learned!!
